Setting Automatic Daily Forecasts There are times when you need forecast for a single point more than once. You may be waiting for a weather window to make a passage or spending time around a fixed location. This can be set automatically by changing the keyword and adding two more variables to the email request. Make sure you have a valid model point and it is the point you want before you set this up. You do not want to make a mistake and receive an error message for the next ten days! You may want to submit a single data-responder request to test the point before you set it up for automatic reception. If you want more than one set up, you need to send a seperate email for each one. They cannot be combined into one email message. Your email client needs to be set to send text only and no HTML. Some email programs, like hotmail, will force HTML into your perfectly formatted request. The HTML will screw up your format. To set up daily seven day forecast emails, send to this address: data@buoyweather.com The subject line can be anything or blank. The message content will be made up of ten variables in this exact format: nww3daily username sendaddress latitude longitude timezone format grib deliverytime expiration A sample might look like this: nww3daily joeblow@aol.com me@myboat.com 21 -156.25 -10 2 nww3 18 10 Make sure you read and understand the "7 Day VB Point Forecasts" section. This is just like the data-responder request only with three changes. First, the beginning keyword is “nww3daily”. This tells the program to load your variables into the database instead of respond immediately. Then there are two more lines to add to the request: 9. Selecting the delivery time - You can select when you want the forecast delivered. The time is relative to your time zone selection. Since the weather models normally update every six hours, your are always getting latest forecast data. You may also want to set up two or more emails a day for the same point to get more frequent data updates. Just go through the same set up proccess only changing to a different delivery time. Make sure the time is at least 6 hours different so you will get the new data update. The time is a number in 24 hour format. valid numbers are 0 - 23. Enter 18 for 6pm local for instance. Enter 6 for 6am. Do not put 06. Just 6. Line 10 - The expiration sets the number of times to receive the email. If you are having an email sent to your vessel, make sure you do not set this for longer than you need it. Be conservative. You can alway re-set it. After each section of this manual, this will be repeated: Please triple check your email request format to avoid receiving error data or nothing. Count the number of lines in the message and make sure they are in the right order. Check to be sure there is no typo in your username or email address. The email system is very easy to use, but it is also easy to make a mistake!
